History
The West African Festival of Arts and Culture is aimed at celebrating the rich diversity of West African arts and culture, by showcasing our heritage through music, dance, art and cuisine.ECOFEST was created following the adoption of the Cultural Framework Agreement by the Heads of State and Government in 1987.
Theme
The theme for the maiden West African festival of arts and culture is "Culture: A Catalyst for Peace, Diversity, Economic and Social Integration in West Africa." This festival honors the region's vibrant cultural traditions and promotes cross-cultural exchange and understanding, with the aim of promoting integration, social cohesion, peace, and socio-economic and cultural development."
Organizations
This maiden edition of ECOFEST festival is co-organized by the ECOWAS and WEAMU Commissions, and hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie, Côte d’Ivoire. The organization of ECOFEST is geared towards promoting the region's cultural diversity and strengthening the regional peace and social cohesion through culture. Together, we share a vision of promoting West African arts, heritage, and innovation on the global stage.
Program
ECOFEST begins with a grand opening ceremony, followed by 7 days of West African arts, professional meetings, and performances, art exhibitions, culminating in a closing ceremony celebrating our region's rich heritage.
